Australian Metropolitan Race Clubs
VICTORIA
Racing Victoria Limited is the governing body of racing in the state of Victoria. Metropolitan racing takes place in Melbourne at four city race tracks which are
Flemington,
Caulfield,
Moonee Valley and
Sandown. The Victoria Racing Club races at Flemington, while the Melbourne Racing Club races at Caulfield and Sandown, and the Moonee Valley Racing Club holds it's races at Moonee Valley.
Victoria is home to the Melbourne spring racing carnival which includes the Melbourne Cup.
NEW SOUTH WALES
The NSW Thoroughbred Racing Board governs racing in New South Wales. Metropolitan racing takes place in Sydney at four city tracks which are
Randwick,
Rosehill,
Canterbury and
Warwick Farm. The Australian Jockey Club races at Randwick and Warwick Farm, while the Sydney Turf Club races at Rosehill Gardens and Canterbury Park.
New South Wales is home to the Golden Slipper and Doncaster Handicap.
QUEENSLAND
Queensland racing is governed by the Queensland Thoroughbred Racing Board. Metropolitan racing takes place in Brisbane at two city courses which are
Doomben run by the Brisbane Turf Club, and
Eagle Farm the Queensland Turf Club.
Queensland is home to the Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke Handicap.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Thoroughbred Racing S.A. Limited governs racing in South Australia. Metropolitan racing is conducted in Adelaide at three city courses which are
Morphettville,
Cheltenham and
Victoria Park. The South Australian Jockey Club is the principal racing club of all three courses.
South Australia is home to the Goodwood Handicap and Adelaide Cup.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Racing and Wagering WA governs racing in Western Australia and it is a government-owned body. Western Australian Turf Club (now known as Perth Racing) is the principal club and holds racing at
Belmont Park and
Ascot Racecourse.
Western Australia is home to the Railway Stakes and Perth Cup.
TASMANIA
The Tasmanian Thoroughbred Racing Council (TTRC) is the statutory body for racing in Tasmania and was set up by the Australian Racing Board to look after racing at Hobart and Launceston.
Tasmaina is home to the Hobart Cup and Launceston Cup.
