The Robert Sangster Stakes is the premier sprint event for females during the Adelaide autumn racing carnival and being a Group 1 race for fillies & mares, it typically attracts good class gallopers searching for group one glory. The race tends to assemble a field of mostly local gallopers and some above average types from interstate.
Quite often a top class horse will make the trip to Adelaide for this race, such as Miss Andretti did in 2008, and it has been won over the years by some more than handy types. Good mares Alinghi (2005), Our Egyptian Raine (2003), Apple Danish (1997) and With Me (1991) were all successful in this race.
The race has grown into a prestigous event for females on the South Australian racing calendar each year and any fillies & mares competing in this race might consider tackling the Gr2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) in April.
Rostova (2010) was unplaced in the Gr2 Kewney Stakes at Flemington on Super Saturday of Racing in Melbourne prior to winning this event and recent winners of the Robert Sangster Stakes have been Bel Mer (2009) and Juste Momente (2008).

2010 Robert Sangster Stakes: Rostova was always well back in the run and had about three horses behind her as they rounded the turn, but she was brilliantly ridden and weaved a passage along the inside and proved much too strong in the final 200 metres. Velocitea ran to the lead in the straight but was eventually overtaken by the winner and finished a gallant runner-up, while Sister madly was always thereabouts and held her ground for third.
