The Goodwood is a Group 1 race for open horses and takes place annually late April or early May at Morphettville racecourse in Adelaide, South Australia. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres under set weights & penalty conditions and offers good prizemoney of $350,000 for entrants. The 2010 Goodwood was won by Velocitea from Catapulted with Very Discreet third.
Goodwood race day also includes the Gr1 SA Derby for three-year-olds and is the major race day of the Adelaide autumn racing carnival.

The Goodwood is the premier sprint event of the Adelaide autumn racing carnival and always attracts a strong contingent of well above average gallopers. The race was formerly a handicap event up until 2007, when it became a set weights & penalty race, which tends to favour the better performed horses entered.
Races such as the RN Irwin Stakes or DC Mackay Stakes are good guides to this event and the Goodwood is a time honoured race in Adelaide. I Am Invincible (2nd in 2009) won the DC Mackay Stakes prior to finishing runner-up in this race.
Some more than handy gallopers have saluted in the Goodwood and horses of the calibre of Takeover Target (2009), Super Elegant (2004), Bomber Bill (2003), Sword (1996), Euclase (1992) and Boardwalk Angel (1989) have won this race.
Velocitea (2010) finished runner-up in the Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes on her way to victory in this event and recent Goodwood winners have been Takeover Target (2009) and Shadoways (2008).

2010 Goodwood: Velocitea took advantage of barrier one and enjoyed a cosy run on the pace and went up along the rails in the stright to go past the leader (Catapulted) in the run to the line for a well deserved victory. Catapulted was used up early to go to the lead and he kicked in the straight and was only beaten inside the last 100m in a valiant effort. Very Discreet ran on gamely to finish in third place.
