The Launceston Cup is a Group 3 open handicap race that is held annually on a Wednesday afternoon each February at Launceston racecourse in Launceston, Tasmania. The race is run over a distance of 2400 metres and run under set weight & penalty conditions with prizemoney of $300,000. The 2010 Launceston Cup was won by Larry's Never Late from Dream Pedlar with Growl third.

The Launceston Cup is one of only three Group 3 races in Tasmania each year along with the Hobart Cup & Tasmanian Derby and is held during the summer racing carnival in Launceston.
The race, much like the Hobart Cup, is a major attraction to the city of Launceston and the race itself assembles a field of predominantly local horses and any mainland horses willing to travel to Tasmania to tackle the event. It is typically a race for handy Tasmanian staying types and the Hobart Cup is the logical lead up race to this event.
In recent times Zacielo (2004) & St Andrews (2002) both took out the Hobart Cup & Launceston Cup double, while Ista Kareem (2008) ran 3rd in the Hobart Cup before going on to win this event. Growl (3rd in 2010) won the Hobart Cup by a big margin before running third in this race at his next start.
Larry's Never Late (2010) ran fourth in the Hobart Cup prior to winning this event and recent winners of the Launceston Cup include Zavite (2009) and Ista Kareem (2008).

2010 Launceston Cup: Larry's Never Late raced second all the way in the small field and once they entered the straight he ran to the lead and kicked away for a comprehensive win. The second placegetter Dream Pedlar sat behind Larry's Never Late all the way and tried hard to bridge the gap, but was no match for the winner.
Hobart Cup winner Growl had a cosy run 4th on the fence all the way but was unable to make any ground in the straight and finished a fair distance back in third place.
