The Australasian Oaks is the premier middle distance staying race for three-year-old fillies during the Adelaide autumn racing carnival. The set weight conditions of the race suits the better fillies entered for the event and it is the ideal lead up race to the Gr3 SA Oaks in three weeks time at the same track.
Taking place on the same day as the Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes, this race is typically made up of more than handy local fillies and any interested visitors from other states who choose to make the trek to Adelaide in search of Group 1 success.
Occasionally a quality female galloper may contest this event and go on to bigger and better things, such as Zarita (2008) who went on to beat the colts & geldings in the Gr1 SA Derby (2500m) later in the carnival.
Small Minds (2010) won the listed Adelaide Guineas prior to scoring in this event and recent winners of the Australasian Oaks include Gallica (2009) and Zarita (2008).
