The DC Mckay Stakes is a quality handicap sprint over 1100m and usually sees a field of above average gallopers assembled who may be pressing on to the Gr1 Goodwood (1200m) in a fortnight at the same track. I Am Invincible (2009) ran second to champion galloper Takeover Target in the 2009 Goodwood after winning this race.
Quite often the Mackay Stakes has a capacity field which leads to a race of many chances with plenty of value on offer for consistent gallopers in form. Local horses will make up most of the entries for this event and it has been won by some handy types over the years, including Super Elegant (2003), Toledo (1998), Euclase(1991), and Boardwalk Angel in 1989.
The Gr3 RN Irwin Stakes is a handy lead up race to this event and Blahnik (3rd in 2009) ran third in both races, plus Blahnik also ran third in this race in 2008 and 2009.
Catapulted (2010) was first-up from a spell when an easy winner of this race and recent winners of the DC McKay Stakes have been I Am Invincible (2009) and Idalou (2008).

2010 DC Mckay Stakes: Catapulted raced midfield on the fence before gaining a run in the straight and raced away for a most convincing win. Solchow was always up on the speed and ran her usual honest race for second, while August Proud ran home fairly for third after racing midfield most of the way.
