The SA Oaks is a Group 3 race for three-year-old fillies that takes place each year in Mat at Morphettville racecourse in Adelaide, South Australia during the Adelaide autumn racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 2500 metres under set weight conditions and is worth $115,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 SA Oaks was taken out by Precious Lorriane from Lalla Rookh with Top Billing third.
Also known as the 'SA Fillies Classic', the race was held at Morphettville Parks over 2400m for the 2011/2012 season and will take place on Goodwood day this year, alongside the Gr1 Goodwood, Gr3 The Jansz National Stakes & Gr3 RA Lee Stakes.
The SA Oaks is the longest distance race for three-year-old fillies at group level during the Adelaide autumn racing carnival and being over 2500m under set weight conditions lends itself to the classier fillies in the race.
Fillies contesting this event may have come through the Gr1 Australasian Oaks earlier in the carnival and Irish Darling (2005) was the last filly to win both races, while Miss Lily Rose (2nd in 2009) placed in both races.
Any fillies good enough to tackle the colts & geldings may come via the Gr1 SA Derby or Gr3 Chairmans Handicap on their way to this event. Zarita (2008) was the last filly to take out the SA Oaks & SA Derby double.
Precious Lorriane (2011) ran fifth in the Australiasian Oaks on her way to winning this event and recent SA Oaks winners include Danaupair Starlet (2010) and Zapurple (2009).
