The SA Derby is a Group 1 race for three-year-olds that takes place annually in late April or early May at Morphettville racecourse in Adelaide, South Australia. The race is run over a distance of 2500 metres under set weight conditions and is worth $350,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 SA Derby was won by Kidnapped from Red Colossus with Sea Galleon third.

The SA Derby is the premier staying race for three-year-olds during the Adelaide autumn racing carnival and it is raced over 2500 metres under set weight conditions which advantages the best 3yo gallopers in the race.
Fillies who contested the Gr1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) or Gr3 SA Oaks (2500m) in previous weeks may decide to tackle this event and take on the males. Zarita (2008) was the last filly good enough to win the Derby and took out the Australasian Oaks & SA Derby double in the process.
Taking place on the same day as the Gr1 Goodwood, the SA Derby generally attracts above average three-year-olds and over the years has provided a Caulfield Cup winner & placegetter with Mummify (2003) winning the 2003 Caulfield Cup and then finishing third the following year in 2004.
Count Chivas (1995) and Shivas Revenge (1991) both went on to run second in a Melbourne Cup after winning this race, while Subzero (1992) was good enough to win the great race the same year in 1992.
Rebel Raider (2009) won the AAMI Victoria Derby the previous spring before thrashing his rivals in this race the following autumn.
Kidnapped (2010) ran third in the listed Chairmans before his driving win in this event and recent winners of the SA Derby include Rebel Raider (2009) and Zarita (2008).

2010 SA Derby: Kidnapped was always well back in the field and the race was setup for the backmarkers, which enabled him to finish with a well timed run in the straight, to get to the lead inside the final 50m and grind out a tough win. Red Collossus, like the winner, was back near the tail, before making his run around the same time as Kidnapped and was simply unable to match him when it mattered most, and he ran a game second. Sea Galleon ran home fairly to claim third spot.
