The Blue Diamond Stakes is the premier race held for two-year-olds during the autumn carnival in Melbourne and it has a long and illustrious history. The race has produced many a fine galloper, including the likes of Alinghi (2004), Bel Esprit (2002), Redoutes Choice (1999) Courtza (1989) and Zeditave (1988) who have all won this race.
The Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G and Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies are the traditional lead up races to this classic event and the quality filly Alinghi (2004) was the last 2yo to win a prelude and go on to win this race two weeks later.
Star Witness (2010) won the listed Talindert Stakes on his way to winning this race at only his third start and recent winners of the Blue Diamond Stakes have been Reward To Effort (2009) and Reean (2008).

2010 Blue Diamond Stakes: Star Witness was well back turning for home and then produced a barnstorming finish to run home over the top of Shaaheq (second) close to home in a scintillating win.
Shaheeq raced on the pace behind race leader (Crystal Lily) and when that filly tired Shaaheq raced to the line and shot away to look the winner before being overun in the final bit. Third placegetter Beneteau was always well back and he ran home very strongly making his run with the winner and did a good job to run third.
