The Mannerism Stakes is a more than handy mares race that usually attracts a fairly strong field of females for this time of year. Mares contesting this race may continue on to the Gr3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1600m SW+P) for mares at Flemington on Super Saturday in a fortnight or perhaps the Gr3 Matron Stakes (1600m SW+P) for mares on Blamey Stakes day at Flemington in three weeks time.
The set weight & penalty conditions favor the better performed mares and if there is no standout females, then finding a winner can often be difficult, as is usually the case with these types of mares races.
Tootsie (2010) ran second in the Gr1 Trentham in New Zealand prior to winning this race and recent winners of the Mannerism Stakes include Symphony Miss (2009) and Catechuchu (2008).

2010 Mannerism Stakes: Tootsie struggled to get a clear run in the straight but when she did she ran home strongly to just grab be Positive (second) in the last 50 metres. Be Positive raced on the pace and got clear in the final 150 metres before being collared close to home. Flying Tessie ran home fairly to claim third spot.
