The St George Stakes is a Group 2 Weight-for-age race held each February at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne during the autumn racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1800 metres and is worth $200,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 St George Stakes was won by La Rocket from Heart Of Dreams with Miss Maren third.

The St George Stakes is generally a high quality weight-for-age event that is an ideal lead up race to the premier weight-for-age event of the autumn, the Gr1 Australian Cup which takes place on Super Saturday at Flemington in early March. Horses contesting this race may come via the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes held two weeks earlier with Elvstroem (2005) being the last horse to win both races.
The honour roll of winners for this race sees many a top class galloper's name etched upon it, including horses such as Pompeii Ruler (2007), Lonhro (2004), Northerly (2002-03), Istidaad (1999), Dane Ripper (1998), Durbridge (1994-95), Let's Elope (1992), Vo Rogue (1988-89) and all of them went on to win the Australian Cup.
La Rocket (2010) ran 3rd to Miss Maren in a Caulfield 1400m event prior to winning this race and recent winners of the St George Stakes have been Princess Coup (2008) and Pompeii Ruler (2007).

2010 St George Stakes: La Rocket raced on the pace in second spot behind the leader (Pacino) and set a fairly brisk pace, before running to the lead inside the 200m and proving too strong in the run to the line from Heart Of Dreams, who finished second.
The runner-up Heart Of Dreams sat back in third place off the speed, before making a move in the straight and loomed up to overtake La Rocket, but could not bridge the gap in the run home. Miss Maren ran on fairly to gain third spot.
