The Oakleigh Plate is a Group 1 Open Handicap race held annually each February at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne during the autumn racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1100 metres and worth $350,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Oakleigh Plate was won by Starspangledbanner from Here De Angels and Arinos who dead-heated for second.

The Oakleigh Plate is the premier handicap sprint event of the Caulfield autumn racing carnival and always attracts a classy field of sprinters. Final acceptances usually sees a big field of horses entered with many genuine chances and the winner hard to find, unless there is an outstanding galloper going around.
The Gr1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) and Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) are commonly used lead up races to this event and the Gr3 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) on CF Orr Stakes day is also likely to provide contenders for this race.
Sprinters tackling this race may then continue on to the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington in a fortnight. Swiss Ace (2009) ran second in the Newmarket after winning this event while Scenic Blast ran fifth in this race before winning the 2009 Newmarket Handicap.
Starspangledbanner (2010) ran fourth in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington on his way to win this race and recent Oakleigh Plate winners include Swiss Ace (2009) and Weekend Hussler (2008).

2010 Oakleigh Plate: Starspangledbanner settled close-up on the pace and rounding the turn he ran to the lead and skipped away before being challeneged late, but he defied all challengers in the run to the line to score a very close, but impressive win. Here De Angels and Arinos both ran home strongly late to finish in a dead-heat for second, in a three way go as they crossed the line.
