The WH Stocks Stakes is a Group 2 weight-for-age race for mares that takes place each year in Melbourne at Moonee Valley racecourse in September during the Melbourne spring racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1600 metres and worth $200,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 WH Stocks Stakes was won by King's Rose from Pinker Pinker with Lady Lynette third.
The WH Stocks Stakes is a nice little mares race that provides a good lead-up to races such as the Gr2 Blazer Stakes over 1400 metres on Turnbull Stakes day or the Gr3 Tristarc Stakes over 1400 metres on Caulfield Cup day. The Gr1 Myer Classic at Flemington on Derby day might also be on the agenda for the better quality mares in this race.
The race has been won by some more than handy females including Zarita (2009), Tuesday Joy (2008), She's Archie (2004), Hula Wonder (2000), Arctic Scent (1996) and is held on the same day as the Gr2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and Gr3 McEwen Stakes.
King's Rose (2011) won the Gr2 Memsie Stakes prior to winning this event and recent WH Stocks Stakes winners have been Avienus (2010) and Zarita (2009).
