The Tristarc Stakes is a mares only race over the middle sprint distance of 1400m and generally attracts above average females on their way to the Gr1 Myer Classic (1600m) on AAMI Victoria Derby day, or the Gr2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) on Emirates Stakes day, or any of the better quality mares races still to come.
The set weights conditions of the race means that the better mares in the race have a distinct advantage over their rivals and those females with higher average prizemoney and better race records are typically the ones to beat.
Typhoon Tracy (2009) scored a top win in the Myer Classic after winning this race and the Tristarc Stakes has been taken out in recent years by Mimi LeBrock (2008), Miss Fantabulous (2007) and Nuclear Free in 2006.

Mares from this race will most likely continue on to other set weight mares races or one of the major 1600m handicaps such as the Myer Classic over the carnival period.
Typhoon Tracy (2009) went on to win the the Myer Classic on Derby day, while Mimi Lebrock (2008) ran run third in the Myer Classic later in the spring and Absolutelyfabulous (3rd in 2008) finished runner-up in the same race.
Tan Tat De Lago (2nd in 2008) ran second in the Matriarch Stakes on Emirates Stakes day.
Divine Madonna (3rd in 2006), Infinite Grace (2005), and Bonanova (1999) went on to win the Myer Classic the following year and this event is a great guide to the Gr1 mares event on Victoria Derby day.

2009 Tristarc Stakes: Typhoon Tracy sat behind leader Jolie's Shinju who set a solid pace and then raced to the elad in the straight to put the race beyond doubt and win in comoftable fashion. Hot Danish raced on the pace and ran home well to finish second without ever looking likely, while Glowlamp came home nicely along the rail to get third place.
