Kingston Town Classic

The Kingston Town Classic is a Group 1 weight-for-age race held annually each December at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia during the Perth summer racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1800 metres and worth $500,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Kingston Town Classic was won by Playing God from Ranger with King Saul third.

The feature middle distance event of the summer carnival, the Kingston Town Classic takes place on the final day of the Festival of Perth Racing carnival, two weeks after the Group 1 Railway Stakes and Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes on Super Saturday.

The Kingston Town Classic is the third Group 1 event of the Perth summer racing carnival and attracts quality gallopers from interstate who match it with the locals to create plenty of interest locally.

Horses who tackle this event may come via the Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes, Gr2 WA Guineas or the Gr1 Railway Stakes on their way to this race and the field generally attracts very well credentialled gallopers to make it a well fought out affair. Eastern states galloper Snipers Bullet (2009) took out the the Railway Stakes & Kingston Town classic double after finishing third in this race the previous year.

A good horse's race, the Kingston Town Classic winner is quite often well above average and may continue on to the Gr2 CB Cox Stakes at weight-for-age which is a natural progression in distance being over 2100 metres.

Playing God (2010-11) finished unplaced in the Railway Stakes before scoring a strong win in this race for the second year in a row and recent Kingston Town Classic winners include Sniper's Bullet (2009) and Niconero (2008 & 2006).
