Kingston Town Classic Preview

The Kingston Town Classic is a Group 1 weight-for-age race held annually each December at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia. The race is run over a distance of 1800m and is worth $500,000 in prizemoney. The 2009 Kingston Town Classic winner was the Tracey Bartley trained Sniper's Bullet who beat God Has Spoken with Scenic Shot third.

The Kingston Town Classic is the second biggest race held during the Perth summer racing carnival with prizemoney of $500,000 and attracts quality gallopers from interstate who match it with the locals to create a race of much interest.

Horses may come from the Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m WFA), Gr2 WA Guineas (1600m 3yoSW) or the Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m Hcp) on their way to this event.

It is a good horse's race and the winner is quite often well above average and may continue on the the Gr2 CB Cox Stakes (2100m) at WFA. Snipers Bullet (2009) scored the Railway Stakes & Kingston Town classic double after finishing third in this race the previous year.

Recent winners of the Kingston Town Classic have been Niconero twice in 2008 & 2006 and Megatic in 2007.

2009 Kingston Town Classic: Sniper's Bullet was able to get into a good position from his wide gate on the back of a fast pace set by Dante's Banquet before racing to the lead in the straight before shooting away for a decisive win in the run home. Th 3yo God Has Spoken tried hard to catch the winner and was a clear second from the fast finishing Scenic Shot who grabbed third place.
