The Lee Steere Classic is a set weights three-year-old race that suits horses who may have previously run in the WA Guineas (1600m) held three weeks earlier under similar race conditions.
The last horse to win the WA Guineas & Lee Steere Classic double was Classy Dresser back in 1993. Stormy Nova (2004), Changing Lanes (2003) and Dexian (2001) all ran placings in the WA Guineas before winning this race.
Recent winners of the Lee Steere Classic include Yuro (2007), Mansion House (2006) and Secret Monarch in 2005.

2009 Lee Steere Classic Stakes: Dino Mak raced on the pace and enjoyed an easy run in transit sitting fourth on the outside until he made his move upon straightening to head early leader Impressive Jeuney and kept going strongly to the line for a good win. Impressive Jueney was gallant in defeat and fought on strongly to the line for second, while third spot was taken by The Corporation who ran home late to claim third spot.
