The CB Cox Stakes is a Group 2 weight-for-age staying race over 2100 metres held annually each December at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia during the Perth summer racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 2100 metres and worth $250,000 in prizemoney. The 2009 CB Cox Stakes was won by Lords Ransom from Largo Lad with Dante's Banquet third.
The event was formerly run over 2400 metres but Perth Racing decided to reduce the distance in 2008 to coincide with the Perth Cup on New Year's Day which was reduced in distance from 3200m to 2400m, thus making the Cox Stakes a good lead up event for the Cup.

The CB Cox Stakes is the first race beyond 2000m for the summer and it is a weight-for-age event over 2100m that has proven a great lead in to the Perth Cup on New Year's day. Horses that previously tackled the Gr1 Kingston Town Classic may head on to this event.
The race has been a great guide to finding the winners and placegetters of the Perth Cup over the years. Lords Ransom (2009), Cats Fun (2007), Palatious (1993), Mirror Magic (1991) and Saratov (1988) went on to win the Perth Cup after winning this race. Early Express (2005), Free At Last (2004) and Ideal Centreman (1990) all went on to run placings in the Perth Cup.
Black Tom (3rd in 2004) won the 2006 Perth Cup, while Westerly Breeze (2nd in 2007) finished third in the 2008 Perth Cup. The Fuzz (3rd in 2008) went on to finish runner-up in the 2009 Perth Cup, while Largo Lad (2nd in 2009) ran third in the 2010 Perth Cup.
Lords Ransom (2009) went on to win the Perth Cup at his next start and there is a fair chance the eventual winner of the Cup, or perhaps a placegetter, may be going around in this race.

2009 CB Cox Stakes: Largo Lad raced to a clear lead inside the 200m before Lords Ransom ran up to him and got the upper hand and they both fought the race out together for a moment before Lords Ransom ran away for a determined win. Largo Lad fought on gallantly for second from Dante's Banquet who ran a solid race to claim third place.
