The Lee Steere Stakes is a Group 2 weight-for-age race held annually each November at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres during springtime and usually run on the same day as the Emirates Stakes in Melbourne. It is worth $200,000 in prizemoney and was taken out in 2009 by Idyllic Prince from Tarzi with Spirited One third.

The Lee Steere Stakes is the first Group 2 race of the season in Perth and is a good follow up race to the Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m WFA) held two weeks earlier at the same track. Idyllic Prince (2009) won the Prince Of Wales Stakes & Lee Steere Stakes double in 2009 while Spirited One (3rd in 2009) ran third in both races.
This race attracts gallopers who might then go on to tackle races like the Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m) in 2 weeks time or the Gr2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m WFA) in 3 weeks. Idyllic Prince (2009) ran second in the Winterbottom Stakes after scoring in this event..
The better types looking for more ground might head towards the Gr1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at weight-for-age in December.
In recent times the Lee Steere Stakes has been won by Marasco (2008), Grasspatch Girl (2007) and Belle Bizarre in 2006.

2009 Lee Steere Stakes: Idyllic Prince settled on the pace behind the leader to receive the run of the race. He shot to the lead upon straightening then kicked clear at the 200m defying all challengers in the run to the line to score a solid victory. Tarzi came from last on the turn to run on strongly into second place from Spirited One who battled on gamely to get third place in a narrow photo from the weakening favourite Megatic.
