The San Domenico Stakes is a three-year-old event raced under Set Weights and Penalty conditions each August at Randwick racecourse in Sydney. The race reverted back to 1000m in 2009, after being run over 1100m in 2008, and is worth $125,000 in prizemoney. The 2009 San Domenico Stakes was taken out by Shellscrape from Sniplaz with Kiss Me Katy third.

The San Domenico Stakes is a race that often attracts 3yo horses returning from a spell for a spring campaign and many of them could be first-up from a spell. The level weights playing field means the best three-year-old will generally salute barring any bad luck.
Some good three-year-olds have won the San Domenico Stakes, including Gold Edition (2006), Mistegic (2001), Testa Rossa (1999) and General Nediym in 1997.
Shellscrape (2009) went on to run second in the Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes before winning the Gr3 Roman Consul Stakes both at Randwick, and then ran third in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on Derby day at Flemington later in the spring.
Recent winners of the San Domenico Stakes include Duporth (2008), Sliding Cube (2007) and Gold Edition in 2006.
