The Up and Coming Stakes is a Group 3 event for three-year-old Colts & Geldings held at Warwick Farm racecourse in Sydney each August. The race is a sprint event over 1200 metres and has prizemoney of $125,000. The 2009 Up And Coming Stakes was won by the Peter Snowden trained Rarefied who beat Shellscrape with Offhanded third.
The race was held at Randwick in 2009.

The Up and Coming Stakes is an ideal follow up race from the San Domenico Stakes run two weeks earlier, as the Up and Coming Stakes is run under the same race conditions, only it is raced over an extra 100 metres which is more suitable for some horses. It is a good returning race for a three-year-old gearing up for a spring campaign and is often won by a classy galloper.
The race has been won by some quality three-year-olds who have gone on to become top horses, including Fastnet Rock (2004), Exceed and Excel (2003), Testa Rossa (1999) and the flying General Nediym in 1997.
Recent winners of the Up And Coming Stakes have been Dreamscape (2008), race not held in 2007, and Court Command in 2006.

2009 Up And Coming Stakes: Rarefied came with a late run off the fence to overtake early leader Shellscrape to win in good style. Shellscrape led for home and kicked clear to look the winner before finishing second, while Offhanded battled on for third.
