Dane Ripper Quality

The Dane Ripper Quality is a Group 2 fillies & mares race held annually in late May at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland and was afforded Group 2 status in 2009. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres under set weight plus penalty conditions and is worth $200,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Dane Ripper Quality was won by Hurtle Myrtle from Zero Rock with Pontiana third.

The Dane Ripper Quality is a race for fillies and mares only and typically attracts mainly local gallopers who are suited to the set weight & penalty conditions of the event. The race takes place on Gr1 Queensland Oaks day and females contesting this race may continue on to the Gr1 Winter Stakes (1400m F&M) a fortnight later over the same track & distance.

The Winter Stakes is a steep rise in class for fillies & mares contesting this event and Tripping (1996) was the last filly or mare to win the Dane Ripper & Winter Stakes double in the same year. Russeting (4th in 2009) went on to win the feature mares race of the carnival, the Winter Stakes two weeks later.

Hurtle Myrtle (2011) ran fifth in the listed Dark Jewell over 1400m at at Scone in NSW prior to winning this race and recent Dane Ripper Quality winners have been Set For Fame (2010) and Chinchilla Rose (2008-09).
