The Winter Stakes is a Group 1 weight-for-age race for fillies & mares that takes place annually each June at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres and worth $500,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Winter Stakes was won by Melito from Wealth Princess with Beaded third.

The Winter Stakes is a good quality race for fillies & mares only and is the final Group One race of the Brisbane winter racing carnival. The weight-for-age race conditions of the race advantage the better performed females contesting the event and more often than not the best filly or mare will greet the judge.
The race has been taken out by some very talented mares over the years, including Dane Ripper (1997), Tripping (1996) and Mamzelle Pedrille in 1995. Mares contesting the Gr3 Dane Ripper Quality (1400m) a fortnight earlier at the same track may tackle this event and Tripping (1996) was the last mare to win both races.
Melito (2010) ran placings in the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 and Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap before leading all the way to win this race and recent Winter Stakes winners have been Russeting (2009) and Absolut Glam (2008).

2010 Winter Stakes: Melito ran to the lead early in the race and when asked for her effort in the straight she kept going strongly to score a strong win. Wealth Princess was always well back and came from near last on the turn to run home gamely for a solid second while Beaded raced behind the leader but was no match in the run home and she ran an honest third.
