The Brisbane Cup is a Group 2 open handicap race held annually each June at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland.
The race is run over a distance of 2400 metres and worth $300,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Brisbane Cup was won by Crossthestart from Scouting Wide with Ekstreme third.
The Brisbane Cup is one of the highlight races on Stradbroke Day which is Eagle Farm's major race day of the year and takes place along side the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, Group 1 Queensland Derby for three-year-olds and Group 1 The TJ Smith for two-year-olds.

The Brisbane Cup is an open handicap that was first run at Eagle Farm in 1871 and used to take place on the Monday of the Queen's Birthday holiday weekend in June, but from 2009 has been held on a Saturday on the same day as the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap.
The race was previously a 3200m Group One event until 2007 when the race distance was reduced to 2400m and the race status downgraded to a Group Two event.
It is a staying race that typically attracts handy local stayers, although some interstate raiders have been successful over the years. The 2008 Brisbane Cup winner Viewed went on to win the time honoured Gr1 Melbourne Cup the following spring.
Races such as the Gr1 Doomben Cup or Gr2 PJ O'Shea Stakes are typical lead up races to the Brisbane Cup. Scenic Shot (2009) won the Doomben Cup and PJ O'Shea Stakes on his way to winning this event.
Crossthestart (2010) ran unplaced in the Premier's Cup on a slow track before appreciating the dryer conditions to win this race. Recent winners of the Brisbane Cup have been Scenic Shot (2009) and Viewed (2008).

2010 Brisbane Cup: Crossthestart was perfectly ridden to camp on the pace and when required for his run in the straight at the 200m mark he kept going strongly for a good win over Scouting Wide who led them up before battling on gamely for second. Ekstreme came from worse than midfield in the straight to gain a rails run and finish a close-up third.
