The Lady Of The Turf Stakes is a handy race for fillies and mares only and takes place on Gr1 Doomben Cup day. The race will typically attract female gallopers looking to tune up for the better same sex races ahead, such as the Gr2 Dane Ripper Quality (1400m SW+P) in a fortnight at Eagle Farm or the Gr1 Winter Stakes (1400m F&M) in four weeks also at Eagle Farm.
Fillies & mares racing in the winter carnival will all be striving to win the Lady of The Turf Stakes, Dane Ripper Quality or Winter Stakes, as they are the premier female races of the carnival, and many will often compete in all three races. Russeting (3rd in 2009) went on run fourth in the Dane Ripper Quality before going on to win to win the feature mares race of the carnival, the Winter Stakes, two weeks later.
Wealth Princess (2010) ran second in a Sunshine Coast handicap over 1200m prior to her victory in this event and recent Lady Of The Turf Stakes winners have been Ortensia (2009) and Storm Signal (2008).

2010 Lady Of The Turf Stakes: The first three placegetters were always at the rear during the race and upon straightening up, Wealth Princess commenced a very strong run to hit the lead inside the 150 mark and went on for a most impressive victory. Jerezana was in the last two all the way and she ran on very nicely in the straight to grab second, from the fast finishing Flying Tessie who came from last around the turn to grab third.
