The Silver Slipper Stakes is a Group 2 race for two-year-olds that takes place annually in late February at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1100 metres under set weight conditions and worth $200,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Silver Slipper Stakes was won by Satin Shoes from Elite Falls with Straight Gold third.
The Silver Slipper Stakes is the first two-year-old group race held during the Sydney autumn carnival and provides a good springboard for any youngster with eyes on claiming the big 2yo prize of the autumn, which is the Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes over 1200 metres in April.
Two-year-olds contesting this event may head on to races like the Gr3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) the next week on Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes day or tackle 1200m races such as the Gr3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (2yoF) or Gr3 Skyline Stakes (2yoC&G) in a fortnight at Randwick.
Melito (2009) went on to run second in the Reisling Slipper Trial on Coolmore Stud Classic day, while Onemorenomore (3rd in 2009) managed to win the Gr1 Champagne Stakes on Sydney Cup day later in the carnival.
Satin Shoes (2011) won the listed Widden Stakes over 1100m at Randwick prior to winning this race and recent Silver Slipper Stakes winners have been Chance Bye (2010) and Melito (2009).
