The Hobartville Stakes is a Group 2 race for three-year-olds that takes place annually in late February at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres under set weight conditions and worth $200,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Hobartville Stakes was won by Ilovethiscity from Retrieve with Skilled third.
The Hobartville Stakes is a good quality race for three-year-olds and is the ideal lead up race to the Gr1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) in a fortnight. The Hobartville is run under set weight conditions which favours the better horses entered for the event and the Gr3 Royal Sovereign Stakes provides a good lead up to this race.
Any 3yo tackling this race will most likely head towards the better class three-year-old races to come during the carnival including races such as the the Gr3 Phar Lap Stakes or Gr1 Rosehill Guineas at Rosehill in March.
Ilovethiscity (2011) ran fourth in the Royal Sovereign Stakes prior to scoring in this event and recent Hobartville Stakes winners have been Monton (2010) and Mic Mac (2009).
