The Champagne Classic is a Group 2 race for two-year-olds held each May at Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres under set weight conditions and worth $150,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Champagne Classic was won by Pressday from Spirit Of Boom with Buffering third.
The race takes place on Gr1 Doomben Cup day and is one of seven group races on a big day of feature racing at Doomben.

The Champagne Classic is the first 2yo group race of the Doomben winter carnival and is a sprint event over 1200m raced under set weight conditions which caters for the better horses engaged in the race. Some talented gallopers have saluted in this race, including Gold Edition (2006), Lovely Jubly (2002), Staging (1997), Flavour(1996) and Chief De Beers in 1994.
The Gr2 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) in a fortnight at Eagle Farm will be the most likely target for two-year-olds contesting this event. Virage De Fortune (2005) was the last two-year-old to go on and win both races. Impulsive Dream (3rd in 2009) went on to run second in the Sires Produce Stakes after finishing thrid in this event.
Two-year-olds looking for more ground will consider going on to the Gr1 The TJ Smith over 1600m at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Day. Linky Dink (9th in 2009) and Spot On Target (8th in 2009) ran the TJ Smith quinella after finishing unplaced in this race.
Pressday (2010) went on to win the Champagne Classic, Sires Produce Stakes and The TJ Smith treble in a successful Brisbane winter carnival.
Pressday (2010) ran seventh in the Gr2 Pago Pago Stakes at Rosehill before being freshened to win this race at only his fourth race start. Recent Champagne Classic winners include Funtantes (2009) and Court (2008).

2010 Champagne Classic: Pressday raced just off the pace and made his move inside the 200m to finish with a rush in the final 50m and go on for a pretty good win. Spirit Of Boom raced second all the way and got to the lead inside the 150m point before being overtaken late and finished a game second, while Buffering led easily and showed plenty of fight in the run home before weakening to run third.
