The QTC Sires Produce Stakes is a Group 2 race for two-year-olds held late May at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres and worth $250,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 QTC Sires Produce Stakes was won by Hot Snitzel from Playtime with Mahisara third.
The QTC Sires Produce Stakes is a natural progression for two-year-olds who previously contested the Gr2 Champagne Classic over 1200m earlier in the carnival at Doomben, as it is raced under the same conditions, but rises 200 metres in distance. The last two-year-old galloper to win the Champagne Stakes & Sires Produce Stakes double was Pressday (2010).
Gold Edition (2nd in 2006) won the Champagne Classic prior to running a place in the Sires, while Impulsive Dream (2nd in 2009), Cat D'Antibes (3rd in 2008) & Diamond Deck (2nd in 2007) all placed in the Champagne Classic before placing in this event. Virage de Fortune (2005) & Lovely Jubly (2002) were good enough to win both races and the Champagne Classic is definitely a very good guide to who might perform best in this race.
Two-year-olds contesting this event will more than likely go on to the Gr1 TJ Smith over 1600m one week later on Stradbroke Handicap day at Eagle Farm, with Hot Snitzel (2011), Fravashi (2008), Masked Assassin (2007) and Danleigh (2006) all going on to run placings in The TJ Smith. Benfica (2011) went on to win The TJ Smith after finishing sixth in this race.
Pressday (2010) went on to win the Champagne Classic, Sires Produce Stakes and The TJ Smith treble in a successful Brisbane winter carnival, while Lovely Jubly (2002) was the last 2yo to win the Sires & TJ Smith double before that.
Hot Snitzel (2011) ran third in the Champagne Classic prior to winning this race and recent QTC Sires Produce Stakes winners have been Pressday (2010) and Shoot Out (2009).
