The Myer Classic is a Group 1 weight-for-age race for Fillies and Mares held annually at Flemington during the Melbourne spring racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1600 metres with $500,000 in prizemoney and is one of only two Group 1 events for fillies and mares held in Australia each year.
The 2009 Myer Classic was taken out by the Peter Moody trained Typhoon Tracy from Lady Lynette from Zarita.
The Myer Classic is held on the same day as the Victoria Derby, which is the first day of the four day Flemington Spring racing carnival which is just three days before the Melbourne Cup in November.
The Derby day programme is full of Group races, and there are three more Group Ones along side the Myer Classic, and they are the Mackinnon Stakes, Victoria Derby, and Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The Myer Classic has also been known as the 'The Honda Legend' and in 2003 the race became Group 2 level, and the conditions were changed from 'set weights & penalties' to 'weight for age' and three-year-old fillies were allowed to run. The Myer Classic obtained Group 1 status in 2004 which gave Derby day four group one races for the day.
The best fillies & mares in Australia and New Zealand contest this event and it is a classic mile race for females. Races like the Rose Of Kingston Stakes and Tristarc Stakes have previously been a good guide to this event. The better quality fillies or mares have a distinct advantage due to the weight-for-age conditons of the race.
Mares from this race tend to race in similar mares events or quality open handicaps over a mile to middle distance and are capable of winning or being very competitive. Recent winners of the Myer Classic have been Forensics (2008), Divine Madonna (2007) and Lyrical Bid in 2006.

The race attracts the best 1600 metre fillies and mares from around the country and the race has been won by some more than handy females, although no winner in the past twenty years has gone on to win either the Caulfield Cup, WS Cox Plate or Melbourne Cup.
Divine Madonna (2007) won this race after winning the Emirates stakes the previous spring as did Bonanova (1998) who took out the 1997 Emirates Stakes.
Typhoon Tracy (2009) won the Gr2 Tristarc Stakes prior to scoring a resounding win in this race.

2009 Myer Classic: Typhoon Tracy worked a bit early but eventually took a sit third on the fence before exploding to the lead at the 200m and she put a space in them in no time to put the race beyond doubt and clear away for an emphatic victory. Lady Lynette ran on solidly along the inside to run into second placing while Zarita finished a game third place just in front of the fast finishing Neroli.
