2010 Winner: Albert The Fat

The BTC Cup is the first Group 1 race of the Brisbane winter racing carnival and is a major weight-for-age event that generally assembles a field of very good gallopers. It is the ideal lead up race to one of the bigger races of the Brisbane winter which is the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 over 1350 metres in a fortnight at Doomben.

Top class horses to win this race include Apache Cat (2008), Falvelon (2003 & 2000), General Nediym (1998) and Chief De Beers in 1996. In recent times Apache Cat (2008) has scored the BTC Cup & Doomben 10,000 double, while Takeover Target (2nd in 2007) managed to win the Doomben 10,000 at his next start. Apache Cat (3rd in 2009) also won the Doomben 10,000 at his next start for the second year in a row after running third here in this race.

Albert The Fat (2010) ran third in the Sir Byrne Hart Stakes prior to winning this event at his second run from a spell and recent BTC Cup winners have been Duporth (2009) and Apache Cat (2008).

2010 BTC Cup: Albert The Fat settled worse than midfield in the run and he finished strongly in a driving finish to gain the nod in a very close photo finish from the filly Melito who had a similar run to the winner, while Latin News raced just off the pace and got home nicely to run an honest third.
