The Coolmore Stud Classic is a Group 1 quality handicap race for fillies & mares held annually each March at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales during the autumn racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1500 metres and worth $600,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Coolmore Stud Classic was won by Aloha from Jersey Lily with Melito third.
The winner is of this race is exempt from ballot for the Doncaster Hcp and is held on the same day as the Gr1 Ranvet Stakes at weight-for-age.
The Coolmore Stud Classic is a race for fillies and mares only that is only of only two Group 1 races to take place for females during the Sydney autumn carnival, the other being Queen Of The Turf Stakes, which is held on Golden Slipper Stakes day at the same track.
This race attracts the best fillies & mares available and is always a hotly contested affair with plenty of quality gallopers assembled. The Classic is a handicap event, which theoretically puts the females on equal terms and makes for an exciting race with no real standouts, unless there happens to be an outstanding filly or mare entered.
Some classy females have won the Coolmore, including Typhoon Tracy (2009), Tuesday Joy (2007) and the mighty mare Sunline twice in 2000 & 2002.
Casino Rose (1999) was the last galloper to win both the Coolmore Stud Classic & Queen of The Turf Stakes in the same year, while the most recent to go close was Regal Cheer (2006), who finished runner-up in the Queen of The Turf Stakes after winning this event.
Aloha (2011) won the Gr3 Frances Tressady Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield prior to scoring a comfortable victory in this event and recent Coolmore Stud Classic winners have been Alverta (2010) and Typhoon Tracy (2009).
