The Prince Of Wales Stakes is a Group 3 weight-for-age race held annually each October at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia during the Perth summer racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres and worth $125,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Prince Of Wales Stakes was won by Waratah's Secret from Grand Nirvana with King Kool Kat third.
The Prince Of Wales Stakes is the first group race of the season in Perth and paves the way for a number of Group 2 & 3 races each week, until the running of the Gr1 Railway Stakes and Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes in late November.
Typically assembling the better local gallopers going around, the Prince Of Wales Stakes favours the better horses entered and weight-for-age gallopers contesting this race will usually go on to run in the Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes in two weeks time at Ascot. For Your Eyes Only (3rd in 2010) ran third in the Lee Steere Stakes after placing in this event.
The Prince Of Wales Stakes and is held on the same day as the Group 1 WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in Melbourne.
Waratah's Secret (2010-11) ran second in the listed Northerly Stakes over 1400m on his way to winning this race for the second year in a row and recent Prince Of Wales Stakes winners have been Idyllic Prince (2009) and Dark Target (2008).
