The race is run over a distance of 2600 metres and worth $150,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Chairmans Handicap was won by Jessicabeel from No Wine No Song with Harris Tweed third.
The winner of this race is exempt from Ballot and penalty for the Sydney Cup.

The Chairmans Handicap is a 2600m distance race run under handicap conditions and traditonally used as a lead up race to the Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) in a fortnight at the same track. In recent times Jessicabeel (2010), No Wine No Song (2008), Henderson Bay (2002), Linesman (1997) and King Aussie (1990) all won this race and then went on to win the Sydney Cup.
It is typically a race for staying types looking for an event somewhat closer in distance to the 3200m of the Cup and field quality varies each year. Ista Kareem (4th in 2009) managed to take out the Sydney Cup after running fourth in this event.
The Chairman's Handicap is held on the same day as the Gr1 AJC Australian Derby and Divine Rebel (2009) went on to run a top second in the Sydney Cup after winning this event.
Jessicabeel (2010) ran third in the listed Epona Stakes on her way to scoring in this event and she then went on to win the Sydney Cup at her next start, while Harris Tweed (3rd in 2010) ran third in the same race.
Recent winners of the Chairman's Handicap include Divine Rebel (2009) and No Wine No Song, who was a consecutive winner in the years 2007 and 2008.

2010 Chairman's Handicap: Jessicabeel was beautifully ridden and she ran to the lead inside the 150m mark to go on and score a very comfortable win from No Wine No Song, who ran on nicely to grab second, while Harris Tweed also finished well to claim third.
