The Research Stakes is a fillies and mares handicap race over 1200m with a highweight limit of 61 kilograms for the better performed mares. The females will more often than not come to this race via the Gr3 Sheraco Stakes (1100m) held two weeks earlier at Rosehill. The race attracts handy fillies and mares who are best suited to the conditions of the race.
In recent times the Research Stakes has been won by Judged (2008), not held in 2007, and Coolroom Candidate in 2006.

2009 Research Stakes: Hot Danish settled just behind the pace under her big weight before forging to the lead inside the 200m and got to the line very strongly to beat Madame Pedrille, who ran on gallantly for second after being held up slightly on the rails, while Beaucoup ran on fairly to take third placing.
