The Research Stakes is a Group 3 quality handicap for 3yo & upwards fillies and mares held at Rosehill racecourse during the Sydney spring racing carnival each year in September. The race is run over a distance of 1200 metres and worth $250,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Research Stakes was won by Screen from Gybe with Ofcourseican third.
This race is held on Gr2 Stan Fox Stakes on the second day of the three-day Randwick carnival and was run as the Golden Pendant at Rosehill for the 2011/2012 racing season.
The Research Stakes is a fillies and mares handicap sprint race that more often than not will attract females who may have run in the listed Sheraco Stakes held earlier in the carnival at Rosehill.
The race is named after former brilliant mare Research and tends to assemble more than handy fillies and mares who are best suited to the conditions of the race, especially those gallopers on the rise, and any who may be down in the weights and under the handicapper's guard.
Outstanding mare Hot Danish (2009) won this race lumping 61 kilograms and talented gallopers Judged (2008), Spinning Hill (2000) and Dantelah (1998) have all won this event.
Screen (2011) won this race first-up after finishing unplaced in the listed Dark Jewel over 1400m at Scone prior to a spell and recent Research Stakes winners have been Trim (2010) and Hot Danish (2009).
