The Golden Rose is a Group 1 set weights event for three-year-olds held each year at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney late August early September. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres and now carries a purse of $1,000,000. The 2009 Golden Rose was won by Denman from Trusting with Stryker third.
The Golden Rose is the richest race of the Sydney spring carnival being worth $1,000,000 in prizemoney, and in 2007 the race was elevated to Group 2 status, before being upgraded again in 2009 to Group 1 level.
Being the only million dollar race of the Sydney carnival, the race is fast becoming the spring race to showcase up and coming three-year-olds during the spring racing season.

The Golden Rose is run over 1400 metres and being worth $1,000,000 it attracts good horses. The Run to the Rose held two weeks prior has been a great guide to winners and placegetters of this race in recent years.
The Up and Coming Stakes (3yoC&G) and Silver Shadow Stakes (3yoF) both over 1200m and held the previous week are also ideal lead up races to the Golden Rose.
Denman (2009) won the Run To The Rose & Golden Rose double in outstanding style, while Trusting (2nd in 2009) won the Gr2 Warwick Stakes at weight-for-age before finishing second in this race,
Paratroopers (2005) won the The Run to the Rose before winning this event, while Mentality (3rd in 2006) won the 2006 Run to the Rose before finishing 3rd in this race. El Cambio won the 2007 Run to the Rose before running second to Forensics in the March 2008 running of this race.
Court Command (2006) won the Up and Coming Stakes and Duporth (2008) ran third in the Up and Coming Stakes before winning this race, so it will pay to cast a keen eye over recent 3yo set weight events if history is any guide.
