The George Moore Stakes is a handy sprint race for this time of year and typically attracts the best available local sprinters going around at the time due to the high prizemoney on offer and the handicap conditions.
It has been won by some good horses at various times, including quality types like Takeover Target (2005) and Chief De Beers (1994/97). The race is held during the Brisbane summer carnival which hosts a number of listed stakes races throughout December and January.
Recent winners of the George Moore Stakes have been Friendly Embrace (2008), not held in 2007, and Natural Destiny in 2006.

2009 George Moore Stakes: Burdekin Blues led clearly upon settling and stretched his lead rounding the home turn and then kicked clear to go on and score a very good win. Zero Rock sat on the pace behind the eventual winner and finished a game second while Forestreno ran on from midfield to claim third place just in front of the fast finishing Ghettoblaster.
