Adrian Knox Stakes

The Adrian Knox Stakes is a Group 3 quality handicap race for three-year-old fillies that takes place annually each April at Randwick racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales.The race is run over a distance of 2000 metres and worth $150,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Adrian Knox Stakes was won by Crafty Irna from Raspberries with Becerra third.

Held on Derby Day at Randwick, the Adrian Knox Stakes winner is exempt from a ballot on the Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks for fillies on Doncaster Day and the race itself is run on the same day as elite Group 1 races the AJC Australian Derby, TJ Smith Stakes and AJC Sires Produce Stakes.

The Adrian Knox Stakes takes place seven days before the AJC Australian Oaks over 2400m at Randwick and gives three-year-old fillies a final hit out at 2000m in preparation for the extra 400 metres of the Oaks the following Saturday.

This race has been a handy guide to the AJC Oaks in recent years with Rena's Lady (2007), Wild Iris (2004) and Republic Lass (2002) all winning the Adrian Knox & AJC Oaks double, while Miss Darcey (2009) went on to place third in the AJC Oaks and the Adrian Knox Stakes is generally a race for more than handy fillies rather than the silk department.

A race like the Gr3 Frank Packer Plate on the last day of the autumn carnival at Randwick may also be next on the agenda for fillies contesting this race and Dariana (6th in 2010) went on to win the Frank Packer Plate at her next start.

Crafty Irna (2011) ran fifth in a three-year-old fillies race over 1600m at Warwick Farm prior to winning this event and recent Adrian Knox Stakes winners include Speedy Natalie (2010) and Miss Darcey (2009).
