Queensland Guineas

The Queensland Guineas is a Group 2 race for three-year-olds held each June at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland. The race is run over a distance of 1600 metres under set weight conditions and worth $250,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 Queensland Guineas was won by Torio's Quest from Benny's Buttons with Spot The Rock third.

Taking place on Stradbroke Day which is Eagle Farm's biggest day of racing for the year, the Guineas is held along side three Group 1 races which are the Stradbroke Handicap, Queensland Derby & The TJ Smith.

The Queensland Guineas is a good mile race for three-year-olds who do not have the staying ability to tackle the longer 2400m distance of the Queensland Derby held on the same day. The race generally assembles more than handy 3yo gallopers who quite often go on to become very capable racehorses. Talented gallopers Rothesay (2010), Yippio (1997), Paris Lane (1994), Triscay (1991) and Planet Ruler (1988) have all won this race over the years.

Possible lead-up races to this event include the Gr3 Gunsynd Classic at the Gold Coast or the Gr3 Fred Best Classic at Doomben and the set weight conditions of the Queensland Guineas favours the better gallopers entered for the race.

Torio's Quest (2011) finished down the track in a BM95 race over 1400m at Randwick prior to scoring in this event and recent Queensland Guineas winners include Rothesay (2010) and Express Air (2009).
