The Fred Best Classic is a Group 3 race for three-year-olds that takes place annually each May at Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland. The race is run over a distance of 1350 metres under set weight conditions and is worth $125,000 in prizemoney. The 2010 Fred Best Classic was taken out by Stryker from Happy Hippy with Graceful Anna third.
The race was formerly known as the BTC Classic', but in 2009, the newly formed Brisbane Racing Club changed the race name from the 'BTC Classic' to the 'Fred Best Classic' for the 2009/1010 racing season after the merger of the QTC & BTC race clubs.

The Fred Best Classic is a set weights race for three-year-olds that may attract horses who have previously contested the Gr2 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) at the Gold Coast race track two weeks earlier. El Cambio (2008) and Gold Edition (2007) both won the Gold Coast Guineas & Fred Best Classic double in recent years, while Leapfrog (2nd in 2009) ran second in the Guineas before finishing runner-up in this race.
Taking place on Gr1 Doomben Cup day, the level weight conditions of the race suits the stronger performers entered and the field is generally contested by mostly local horses and the occasional talented visitor. Three-year-olds competing in this event may head on to the Gr2 Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm in June.
Stryker (2010) ran fourth in the Gold Coast Guineas prior to scoring in this event and recent Fred Best Classic winners have been Court (2009) and El Cambio (2008).

2010 Fred Best Classic: Stryker was always wide from his wide gate but he raced with cover and produced a big finish in the straight to go on for a great win. Happy Hippy was always back in the field and came home with a strong run to grab second place, while Graceful Anna led on settling, before taking cover midrace and running to the lead momentarily in the straight and battled on gamely for third.
