The Chairmans Handicap is a distance race run under quality handicap conditions and tends to attract handy local stayers rather than the upper echelon. Over the years some good gallopers have managed to win this event, including Society Beau (2002), Iron Horse (1997), Juggler (1996) and Arborea in 1995.
The Gr2 Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast a week earlier may provide potential candidates for this event and upcoming races like the Gr3 Premier's Cup could be next on the horizon.
Crossthestart (2010) ran 5th in the listed Members Handicap at Eagle Farm prior to his victory in this race and recent Chairmans Handicap winners have been Ballack (2009) and Fulmonti (2008).

2010 Chairmans Handicap: Crossthestart settled midfield before Chris Munce took him to the front midrace, due to the slow pace up front, and upon straightening he kicked clear and then kept going strongly to the line for an impressive win. Larry's Never Late came from well back in the straight to rum home hard for second, while The Grogoch was always handy in the run and battled on gamely to claim third.
