WA Sires Produce Stakes

The WA Sires Produce Stakes is a Group 3 event for two-year-olds that takes place at Ascot racecourse each April in Perth, Western Australia. The 2011 WA Sires Produce Stakes was won by Bliss Street from Single Spice with Valley Girl third.

In recent times the WA Sires Produce Stakes has been held at Ascot racecourse (2006-2009) and Belmont racecourse (2010) and the race was run at Ascot for the 2010/2011 season.

The WA Sires Produce Stakes is a set weights event for two-year-olds held during the Perth autumn carnival at Ascot and the winner is more often than not just a handy galloper, rather than a topliner, as most of the best two-year-olds will be in Sydney during the autumn for the prestigious Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

The WA Sires Produce Stakes will most likely attract young gallopers who contested the Gr2 Karrakatta Plate the previous month over 1200m at the same track and the extra 200m of the Sires is the logical next race for two-year-olds during the autumn.

Motion Pictures (2010), Brava Fortune (2008) and Roman Time (2007) all won the Karrakatta Plate & Sires Produce Stakes double and a number of horses including Wolfe Dreams (2nd in 2009) have ran placings in both races over the past few years. The Karrakatta Plate is well worth keeping an eye on when looking for the likely contenders in this race.

Bliss Street (2011) won a two-year-oldd race over 1200m at Ascot prior to winning this event and recent WA Sires Produce Stakes winners include Motion Pictures (2010) and God Has Spoken (2009).
