The WA Oaks is Western Australia's Group 3 classic staying event for three-year-old fillies and is held in March at Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia. The race is run over a distance of 2400 metres under set weight conditions and worth $250,000 in prizemoney. The 2011 WA Oaks was won by Dreamaway from Why She Left with Ladysea third.

The WA Oaks is the premier staying event held in Western Australia for three-year-old fillies during the autumn and the race generally attracts the best local females going around and any interested interstate fillies who might want to attempt an easier Oaks event.

Held during the Perth autumn carnival, the WA Oaks does not attract the best 3yo fillies in Australia, as the Group 1 Crown Oaks and Group 1 AJC Oaks do in the eastern states, and is therefore only a Group 3 event.

Capable fillies from this race might consider going on to tackle the males in the Gr2 WA Derby in April and Dreamway (2011) and Grand Journey (2008) have been the most recent fillies to complete the WA Oaks & WA Derby double.

The listed Natasha Stakes over 2200m at Ascot has been a great guide to the WA Oaks of late and has provided three recent winners including Dreamaway (2011), Impressive Jeuney (2010) and Grand Journey (2008).

Dreamaway (2011) won the Natasha Stakes at this track prior to scoring in this event and recent WA Oaks winners have been Impressive Jeuney (2010) and Cassandra Shadow (2009).
