The Villiers Stakes is a good quality 1600m race on the racing calendar and it takes place just before Christmas at Randwick racecourse. The race is held in high regard and generally attracts above average gallopers, especially considering the time of the year.
The race suits good milers or strong 2000m horses, and while not as strong as Randwick's other big mile races, the Epsom Hcp and Doncaster Mile, it is usually a more than handy field that lines up in the Villiers.
Recent winners of the Villiers Stakes have been Something Anything (2008), it was not held in 2007 due to the Equine Flu virus, and prior to that Utson scored in 2006.

2009 Villiers Stakes: Palacio De Cristal was always at the rear during the race and she produced a very strong run in the straight to finish over the top of them to score in top fashion. Second placegetter Parmumier also came from worse than midfield to finish well for runner-up while Spinney ran on fairly for third.
