The Tramway Quality Hcp is a Group 3 race for 3yo & upwards horses held each September at Warwick Farm racecourse in Sydney during the spring racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres and worth $125,000 in prizemoney. The 2012 Tramway Quality Hcp was won by Tagus from Kontiki Park with Moment Of Time third.

The winner of this race is exempt from ballot on the Epsom Handicap and the race itself is held on the same day as the Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes, Gr2 Furious Stakes and Gr3 Concorde Stakes.

The Tramway Quality Hcp is best suited to horses who race best under quality handicap conditions and any gallopers who contested the Show County Quality the previous month will more often than not contest this race, as the Show County is raced under the same race conditions, only the Tramway is an extra 200 metres in distance.

In recent times Bank Robber (2008), Primus (2006) and Sportsman (2003) won the Show County Quality before winning this race and number of horses have placed in both races over the past few years.

The Tramway Quality Hcp has proven to be a good guide to future big race winners at Randwick during the spring of late, with Sincero (2011) winning the Gr1 George Main Stakes and Secret Admirer (2nd in 2011) claiming the Gr1 Epsom Handicap.

Steps in Time (10th in 2012) and Thankgodyou’rehere (3rd in 2011) won the Gr3 Bill Ritchie Handicap after contesting this event.

Top galloper Rangirangdoo (2009) ran second in the Gr1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick after winning this race and he then travelled to Melbourne to win the Gr2 Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley on WS Cox Plate day.

Tagus (2012) finished seventh in the Gr2 Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm prior to winning this event and recent Tramway Quality Hcp winners include Sincero (2011) and Neeson (2010).
