The Theo Marks Stakes is a handicap race over 1300 metres with a highweight limit of 61 kilograms and is a good follow up race to the Gr3 Concorde Stakes (1100m) held two weeks earlier at Rosehill.
Horses entered for this race will most likely head towards the Randwick carnival and the Gr2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) and Gr1 Epsom Hcp (1600m), as they are a natural progession in conditions and distance.
Smart galloper Racing to Win won the Theo Marks & Epsom Handicap double in 2006, and this race has been won by some quality types, including Defier (2002), Shogun Lodge (2001), Adam (1999) and Catelan Opening in 1997.
Rracing To Win (2009) ran fourth in the Gr2 Warwick Stakes on his way to winning this race, while Rock Kingdom (2nd in 2009) went on to win the Gr1 Epsom Handicap. Recent winners of the Theo Marks Stakes have been Hurried Choice (2008), not run in 2007, and Racing To Win also won this race in 2006.

2009 Theo Marks Stakes: Racing To Win settled nicely on the rail off the speed under his big weight and then gained a late split in the run to the line to surge clear and win in very good fashion from Rock Kingdom who led momentarily before being overtaken, while Triple Honour looked a chance before weaking in the final 100m to hold on for third.
