The Tea Rose Stakes is a 3yo fillies event over 1500m that is the perfect lead up race to the major Group 1 race of the spring for three-year-old fillies, the Gr1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in a fortnight.
This race will attract fillies that contested the Gr2 Furious Stakes (1400m) held two weeks earlier at Randwick, as the step up from 1400m to 1500m is ideal to fine tune for the 1600m of the Flight Stakes. The Furious Stakes has provided 9 of the past 12 winners of this race, while the Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes winners (7) and placegetters (2) have gone on to win 9 of the past eleven Flight Stakes.
Samantha Miss (2008), Mnemosyne (2005), Prisoner Of Love (2004), Shamekha (2003), Victory Vein (2002) all won the Furious stakes prior to winning this race.

2009 Tea Rose Stakes: More Joyous raced on the pace and gained a run in the straight and went head to head with Melito before charging away for a very easy win.
