The Standish Handicap is a Group 3 Open Handicap race held at Flemington racecourse on New Year's day. It is traditionally run down the 1200m straight course on the first day of each new year, although in 2006 it was run over 1100m. Worth over $200,000 in prizemoney the 2010 Standish Handicap was won by Royal Ida from Beltrois with Juggle The Books third.

The Standish Handicap is a good sprint race to bring in the new year and usually attracts the best sprinters going around at the time, although they are generally just handy types rather than the upper echelon.
The race has been taken out by some above average gallopers over the years including Grandiose on two occasions in 1989 & 1991 and Redelva in 1988. Look for horses who are fit and in form with proven experience down the Flemington straight track, as it does not suit all horses.
Royal Ida (2010) won this race off nearly a two month break and in recent years the Standish Handicap has been won by King Hoaks (2009) Publishing (2008) and Watchyerback in 2007.
