The RJ Peters Stakes is a quality handicap over 1500m and is an ideal lead up race for the major event of Perth summer racing, the Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m) in one week's time.
The race may attract horses who previously contested the Gr3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) two weeks earlier, and gallopers looking for more distance may head towards the Gr1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in three weeks time.
Elliotto (2009) ran second in the Asian Beau Stakes prior to winning this event and in recent times the RJ Peters Stakes has been taken out by Famous Roman (2008), El Presidente (2007) and Always A Devil in 2006.

2009 RJ Peters Stakes: Elliotto sat patiently four back on the outside and bided his time until entering the home straight where he produced a strong sustained effort in the run to the line to hold on for a narrow victory. Colour Correct came home resolutely and battled valiantly with Elliotto over the last 50m to finish a close second, while Grand Nirvana was always well back and made late ground along the inside to snare third place.
