The Premier's Cup is a middle distance race over 1800m and is suited to handicapping type horses who can carry weight well and run a solid middle distance. It is a good lead up race to longer distance events such as the Gr3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m), Gr3 Colin Stephen Quality Hcp (2400m), and the Gr1 The Metropolitan (2400m) in coming weeks.
Voice Coach (2nd in 2009) ran second in the Kingston Town Stakes after finishing runner-up in this race and in recent years the Premier's Cup has been won by Red Lord (2008), Activation (2006), Railings (2005) and Bush Honey in 2004.
Railings (2005) went on to run second in the Gr3 Kingston Town Stakes, before winning the Gr3 Colin Stephens Quality Hcp, Gr1 Metropolitan, and then took out one of Melbourne's big spring staying events the $1.5 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) after winning this race.
Stormhill (2nd in 2005) and Mr Martini (2nd in 2006) went on to win the Gr3 Kingston Town Stakes after placing in this race. It may pay to keep an eye on the Premier's Cup as recent history suggests a good form guide to the Kingston Town Stakes in two weeks time.

Race: Emperor Bonaparte came with a well timed run to just catch the in-form Voice Coach to score a very good win. Voice Coach sat behind the leader and bounded clear upon straightening and gave plenty in the run to the line, while Enzedex Eagle came from well back and ran on strongly into third place.
