The Missile Stakes is a weight-for-age event for horses 3yo and upwards and it is the first stakes race of the new racing season in Sydney. The race is held annually at Rosehill racecourse over a distance of 1100 metres and is worth $125,000 in prizemoney. The 2009 Missile Stakes winner was Teasing from Gold Trail with Typhoon Zed third.
With the new racing season commencing on Sunday August 1st, 2010, the Missile Stakes will be held on the final day of the 2009/2010 racing season, which is on Saturday July 31st, and means the race will effectively be run twice in the same 2009/2010 racing season.

The Missile Stakes is usually contested by solid winter sprinters or quality horses returning from a spell and heading for a spring campaign. The race can be won by a fit, honest type who excels on the day, or a fresh classy type who is simply too good. Some of the better gallopers to have won the Missile Stakes include Dance Hero (2005), Lonhro (2002) and Guineas in 1997.
Gallopers contesting this event may go on to the Gr2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) in a fortnight at the same track, and Captain Bax (2008) went on to run second in the Premiere at his next start, while German Chocolate (2007) and Spark Of Life (2004) both managed to win the Bletchingly Stakes & Premiere Stakes double.
Gold Trail (2nd in 2009) went on to win the Gr2 The Shorts on Epsom Handicap day later in the spring and the Missile Stakes has been won in recent times by Captain Bax (2008), German Chocolate (2007) and Imprisoned in 2006).

2009 Missile Stakes: Teasing produced a brilliant finish in the final stanza to reel in early leader Gold Trail who led easily round the turn and kicked clear in the straight to look the winner before collared close to home, while Typhoon Zed sat on the pace all the way and held his ground to finish third.
